The Irreducible Core
A church can do many things, but at the core the primary purpose of any church should be to love God, love others, and to make disciples.
Love God
The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength. (Mark 12:29,30).
This is the first and greatest commandment. Loving Him with all that we are and in all that we do is an imperative part of true and authentic transformation in this life. When God changes you - it lasts.
Love Others
The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” (Mark 12:31)
Loving Him and loving others are what allows a Christian to move from religious to reconciler. This is true religion - being a blessing.
Make Disciples
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. (Matthew 28:19,20)
Jesus leaves us with the Great Commission, which is to Make Disciples as we go.
